Parking at schools

	Do not park facing against the traffic flow
	Stop as close as you can to the side of the road
	Do not park your vehicle within 50 meters (165 feet) of the front of the school to allow for increased visibilty of children crossing
	Be sure to check your car mirrors before stopping to ensure you create no danger to other road users.
	You MUST switch off your car engine while waiting for your children, to reduce pollution.
	Children are less able to judge speeds of oncoming vehicles so are more likely to run into the road.
	Reduce your speed on approach and when leaving the school area.

Driving near schools

	Reduce your speed.
	Be extra aware of pedestirans and school children entering the road.
	There can be a greater chance of people using bicycles, so ensure to leave room for them joining the road.
	Be aware of crossing patrol guards and obey instructions to stop. Be patient while children are crossing the road.
	If there is a school bus parked at the roadside, be prepared for children suddenly running from behind it. Slow down.

Driving with children

	Ensure all children are sucurely fastened into their car seat.
	Always leave a gap of at least two seconds between you and the car in front. Following too closely cuts the time you'll have to react should something happen. You'll be more able to spot hazards and keep your children safe.
	Keep them occupied by inventing games that promote and reward quiet behaviour without needing the driver's direct involvement.
	If you are planning a long journey, make sure you're organised, remembering to pack plenty of food and drink.
	Allow extra stops. Find somewhere for them to let off steam such as a playground.
	Have a plastic bag (without any holes) at hand for travel sickness.
	A second adult to look after the children makes a massive difference, leaving the driver to drive.
	Don't turn round to deal with fighting kids. Find somewhere to stop first.
